A personal, local oak framing service

I'm Allister, and this is a small, local business by choice: four years trading from Whitchurch Hill, near Reading. You deal with me directly: I work with you from the first site visit and I'm on the job all the way through, from ground up to finish. I pride myself on communication and organisation.

Green oak is oak used unseasoned. It is cut and jointed while the timber is still workable, then hardens over the years into the frame it was made to be. The same method has held up barns and farmhouses for centuries.

Built on site, not cut and delivered

The bigger framing companies cut a frame, deliver it and leave. That's not what this is. Each of my frames is cut for its site, raised by me and pegged together the traditional way.

That matters most on larger projects: extensions, garages with rooms above, garden rooms that need foundations and drainage done properly first. It's the work I do most, and the work I like best.

We worked with Green Oak Buildings for almost a year on a large oak-framed extension, including all associated groundworks and landscaping. Allister delivered consistently high-quality workmanship throughout the project. The oak frame was built precisely to our specification, and we are absolutely delighted with the finished result. In addition to crafting the oak frame, Allister also carried out the groundworks and internal carpentry, completed the landscaping and project-managed every contractor involved from start to finish. Having everything coordinated so efficiently made the whole process much easier for us.

A professional building firm. Allister is a genuine guy - reliable, friendly and listened to our needs for our extension. His timber work is beautiful and is passionate about the details. Highly recommended.
Andy Joyce Google review
This company converted my garage into a beautiful kitchen. Allister was efficient, diligent and his workmanship was perfect. The job was completed within the estimated timescale and price. I have no hesitation in recommending this company.
John Westthorp Google review
I can only highly recommend Allister - he and his team have done a great job replacing some external steps to our garage - they look so good that we are considering building an oak garden room to replace our existing. He made it all happen with the minimum of fuss and exactly to our timeframe. Thank you.
